Monday Matters | Back from London & New Job

Where have I been? I have been MIA and for good reason!

After the DaisyBeauty Expo, I took a long weekend in London on the 19th until yesterday evening. A bit of a spontaneous trip and well worth it. Here you can see just a few of the sights I walked around the city to see. I ate good comfort food (KFC, Dominos, Chipotle… you know, what we don’t have in Sweden haha!), went shopping (primark was a must… a few times…) and just spent time outdoors and creating blisters on my feet. Perfect long weekend.

London trip

As you may have seen, the blog has been quiet lately and it has just been because I have been trying to take some me time and try to gather my energy after this weirdly started year. Just a few days after being laid off, I was given the opportunity to start working with Daisy Beauty Magazine which I started today and I am very thankful and excited for the opportunity.

It has been a very rough January and I believe things are looking up. I did realize that though I have gone through so much worse and after getting a pretty hard beating this time around, I really needed to take the time off and get back from just being able to keep my head above water to being able to breathe again.

I hope you all understand! I promise after getting settled into the new job that I would be back to regular reviews, looks and all that wonderful stuff. I do have a lot to share.

Much Love, Jasmine

Summary Sunday: DaisyExpo 2017

What a weekend! Daisy Expo has always been the number one highlight of the year! It’s the first big bang in the winter gloom and this year it is just that extra special because I too am now a part of the Daisy Beauty Gang!

daisyexpo16

I will be starting with Daisy Beauty as their Sales Rep together with Kicki, Sam & Beauty By K. I am very excited for this opportunity (and quite nervous too!) and cannot wait to share my experiences with you all! As for now, my blog will stay here and I will take a look at options if I would like to move to the Daisy Portal or stay on my own domain. Let me know in the comments what you think I should do?

Anyway on to the more interesting stuff! DaisyExpo 2017! Though I was invited as a blogger, I was able to jump right in and help out! I did of course keep my camera handy though! The first day was lectures and unfortunately I only got to sit in one of them, the rest of my day went to help set up the exhibition for the day after so this post is all about day 2 of the Expo!

Day 2: DaisyExpo 2017

Lets start on the bottom floor!

DaisyExpo 2017

Garnier had the most beautiful flower arrangements! I snapped the whole progression and it was just fantastic to see the final result of the room! They released four new series in the Respons and one of them has Maple extract and castor oil! It says to detangle, revitalize and care so I am super excited to be able to try it out!

DaisyExpo 2017
Akademikliniken was also present with their latest Pure Glow Oil (ca. 1700kr/30ml) and they also had competitions throughout the day! The Pure Glow oil is a highly concentrated Vitamin C that works against early aging and also works on lustre and elasticity.

DaisyExpo 2017

New to this year is Cinq Mōndes! I got in contact with this brand I believe a year or so ago so it was great having them present! Cinq Mōndes Spa Paris is a beautiful French Spa brand which is created by Jean-Louis Poiroux.

DaisyExpo 2017A return was from Kiss with their new Blooming lashes, Fabby Style with their glass nail files, and Vita Liberata with a 10 minute mask… but this time they also had a new brand called AtacheThe brand has 30 years of experience within Dermatology and was founded in 1983 with ASAC pharma.

DaisyExpo 2017

Speaking of Paris, Farao from Dior held mini fragrance trainings in the Diro room. I thought that their worksamples were so freakin exclusive! And not to mention their new Spring Collection is so colorful and all about the Gradations! PS: did you know that Dior has now Boy George and Rami Malek as new faces of Dior?! Mums!

DaisyExpo 2017

Rosenserien was a stand full of smiles! This brand is a swedish organic skincare brand and I love their lipbalms! They have just released the lavender one (again!) and I would love to give that one a try! (Though I do have the other 4 in every pocket and bag haha!)

DaisyExpo 2017Ellos was a newcomer to the Expo and they had a mini living room that was super cozy! They servered these huge gorgeous looking cupcakes too! Makiash also was a part of the Ellos stand and I can honestly say that I have never tried anything from the brand (nor from Ellos for that matter!). I would love to give that loose powder and that highlighter a whirl from Makiash but also the Take a shower products from Ellos Beauty!

DaisyExpo 2017

L’Occitane is a brand I haven’t had all that much contact with but the ladies were so welcoming and the room smelt like a french spa! I loved the tranquility they set up in their room and they were offering hand massages!

DaisyExpo 2017

Another favorite room was Scandinavian Cosmetics with Escada, Tweezerman, Max Factor and even Lacoste! Escada is celebrating 25 years of summer frangraces with their latest: Fiesta Carioca (420kr/30ml)! They also demoed the two new Lacoste L.12.12 fragrances for him and her AND also had the amazing Makeup Artist Tomas Lenneryd who you can see here doing Kicki’s makeup with Max Factor!

DaisyExpo 2017

Also new for this year was Toni & Guy with Alf Sörensen. I have had much contact with Alf Sörensen during my Sephora days and it was awesome to see that they have gotten the haircare brand. The room smelt yummy AND they were also serving scones!

Whew! I hope you all are still with me?

Let’s take the stairs to the second floor!

DaisyExpo 2017

Derma ProMedical is also new and they took bookings- They also had this awesome LED mask that could be used in treatments. You can see Monas Universum trying it out above! They also introduced the Tebiskin products which are new to me so hopefully I would be able to try them out soon!

DaisyExpo 2017
I was so excited to see that Yves Rocher was at the expo this year! They had a beautiful room filled with greens! They had white flowers that decorated around their products and they even took in these awesome Mojito Paralines that looked like dinosaur eggs! Guests also had the opportunity to get their skin scanned at Yves Rocher.

DaisyExpo 2017

Palina was also great to see since I bumped into them at other exhibitions earlier. They worked on new skincare which they then presented at this years expo! How awesome is that? The packaging is so colorful but classy! I had my eye on the Fairy Scrub and the Overnight Mask haha!

DaisyExpo 2017

Olaplex was the perfect lounge area! They spoke of their step 3 (259kr) and the women there were so fun to be around too!

DaisyExpo 2017
Guests had the opportunity in doing a skinscan at Eucerin and set up a new skincare routine! I personally was very interested in their sun products haha! I am obsessed with sunscreen and I saw that they had a 50+ sun fluid (129kr/50ml) that is mattifying for the face and for sensitive skin!

DaisyExpo 2017
Apoteket‘s set up was elegant in mirrored black! This matches their products super well but gosh, a bit difficult to photograph! I have not personally tried their products (yet) but they looked super interesting!

DaisyExpo 2017
GHD had amazing stylists who offered to do some blowouts, here you see Alexander working his magic!

DaisyExpo 2017
Revlon is also a newbie at this year’s expo and I loved that they used the scene in the screening room! They set up and made beautiful curls! Here you can see the beauty Amanda getting her hair done! They recently released their Be Fabulous series!

DaisyExpo 2017
Here you can see Tanja from L.Y.X Cosmetics fixing some Lacqua & La Chrome on Linnea Öst. I personally am obsessed with L.Y.X and love the women and the concept behind the brand.

DaisyExpo 2017
Acasia Skincare is new for me and my (now) coworker Beauty By K wrote about them earlier so I can’t wait to try them out on my skin!

DaisyExpo 2017
M Picaut released the Hydra Lagoon Overnight Mask (499kr/50ml) that has Malachite, Niacimide and Hyaluronic Acid. I was able to take one home on the first day and tried it. It did have a strong scent BUT worked wonders on my extremely tired skin! I need to try it longer before I can completely comment.

DaisyExpo 2017
AnneMarie Börlind released three new masks: Anti-Aging Cream Mask, 2 in 1 Black mask and Hydro Gel Mask! I am seriously needing the latter two!

DaisyExpo 2017
L’Orèal stood for the most out of this world transformation from conference room to Paris Apartment! They even covered the windows to make it look very parisienne AND there was even a parisienne living there during the expo! How cool is that? They released loads of new cleansers, makeup and I am loving the new Botanical Series! I will probably do a separate post showing all these news!

I had an incredible two days and I really hope the guests and exhibitors also had a great time. Let me know what you’d like to see more of. What brand are you looking forward to reading about here?

Monday Matters: The Reset Button

Welcome to another Monday Matters! Today we’ll be discussing the Reset Button.

The what? Yes. The Reset Button. The exact button  I pressed last week! Much of our day to day is all about routines to follow, going to work, going to the gym (ok, I will sooner or later!), having breakfast, lunch, dinner… There’s quite a bit that comes in that routine such as mental and physical weights of well. stuff. I talk quite a bit from my own experience as for those who know me, I am intense. To the point that I find doing things as relaxing.  I work fulltime, I study fulltime, I blog fulltime and of course I’ve got renovations, my loss of job (so job searching), and so on and so forth. I multi-task like there is no tomorrow and even when I am suppose to be resting during, for example, a flu, I’m up and organizing, cleaning or just doing something.

What happens when allt this stuff: worry, stress, anxiety, what it now could be, gets backed up? We get unbalanced. We start taking it out on other people. We get tired. My answer. The Reset Button! Ok, I do wish I had one of those physical red buttons to press and voilà! but I’m talking more metaphorically. I noticed that I sometimes say out loud “I can’t do this anymore” or “I need to go away” and not really knowing what “this” is or where I needed to go away to. The reset button is so important for well-being because it is when I start saying these things that I realize I am just that much closer to an unnecessary meltdown.

Here are 3 super simple tips to help you press that mental Reset Button!

1. Weekly Intentions – Adjust your Goals

I’m a lister. I list everything and I love organization. But it gets to a point where you can just do so much and that is ok! If you are feeling that your to do list is longer than your can do list, cut it down. Prioritize! I divide my lists in 2. The stuff I must do, the stuff I’d love to get done. From there I choose 3 of each. 3 to accomplish daily and 3 within the week/month.

2. Quiet Time!

I’ve recently been taking 15 minutes of my day to just sit and clean out my thoughts. Meditation of some sort. By giving yourself the time, you can gain more energy to reset. This also helps with point 1 by the way. By cleaning out the extra stuff, you will be able to see what’s most important to you.

3. Make YOU happy & Say No.

I cannot for the life of me say no! It’s so hard especially when I know that I have the ability to do whatever it is but you need to put yourself first sometimes and that also includes saying no. If you can’t deal with whatever it is, don’t. Take a step back if you need to. I personally have gotten to a point where I remove myself from the situation completely and travel instead. Even if it’s just another city or a country all together. Getting away makes me happy and helps me recharge and reset but if you don’t have the opportunity to travel there are other ways too! Get energy from friends? Go see them! Feel happier going to the movies alone? Then do that instead! Do you get lost in books? Read one! Get lost in music? Listen to your favorite tracks.

Just get away from the “stuff” and back to that balanced YOU.

Do you feel that you wish you had a physical reset button? What do you do when you need to reset life?

Summary Sunday | Monday Matters, Best of & Alchemist | w.1

A week of tough self realization. A Week of reflections and of new beginnings!

sunday Summary

I am so thankful for this week and this start of the year. I have learnt so much in so little time that I do not regret a single moment of it and would not change it for the world.

Monday Matters

I kicked off 2017 with Monday Matters, actually with a new theme set up for the blog. You may see that every other day I have some sort of theme such as Monday Matters, Works for me Wednesday, First Impression Friday and even Summary Sunday! I am not 100% sure if I will follow the themes to a point as of course there will be events etc that will also occur on these days but in general I think it could be a nice change!

sunday Summary beauty superlatives 2016I also showed you my best of the best of last year! It took a while for me to organize due to the personal stuff but I found such amazing products last year that deserved a mention.

Kat Von D Alchemist PaletteI also received my Kat Von D Alchemist Palette and did a First Impressions with swatches on different backgrounds! I also tried a new swatch technique instead of finger swatches so hopefully these were appreciated more!

sunday Summary lykoSomething I did not write about is a little haul I got from Lyko. I needed to get a hold of new “Faith” lashes from Depend so I ordered myself two new pairs. Along with that purchase I also got mini Heal shampoo & conditioner from Maria Nila as I have dyed my hair…again. AND I decided on getting the HH Simonson Sugar Skull wet brush too! It was time for a change!

sunday Summary jewellry armoireOther than being laid off and struggling personally with accepting that decision, I also received my jewellery armoire that I ordered before Christmas but it came shattered.  I have contacted them for a return but no answer yet!

Support Saturday | You Are Enough

Support Saturday is all about spreading some love and support for others! For example, I may do interviews with other bloggers or maybe introduce a video that has inspired me. I won’t do this every Saturday but once in a while if you, my readers, like the idea!

As you may know, I have personally been going through a lot lately and to add on to it, I got hit with a bad cold. I believe it came with the stress of the past week. A lot of this week is all about growth and self acceptance instead of the usual beautiful makeups, collections and hauls so I do hope that you readers are OK with that and are on board with the changes I want to put into my blog.

Today I wanted to share a video from The Stay at Home Chef who inspired me a number of weeks back and I think we all need to take a step back and think about the message she has perfectly portrayed here.

“Just a suggestion.”

I love the recipes that The Stay at Home Chef posts and when she took the time to respond to a comment (that may or may not have had any malice behind it) her response really inspired me to rethink the way I talk to people and the way I respond online. Maybe it was just a suggestion but the old saying of “Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about, be kind!” rings true.

My struggle has a lot to do with the way I speak in Swedish. I get called out on it since I do have an american accent when I speak. I’ve been called Tony Irving too often (I take it as a compliment since he is a good person) but it does hurt and it does bother me. Instead of recognizing the struggle I went through in moving to a “foreign” country alone and learnt a full language in less than a year and that they actually can hold a full conversation with me… most people I meet focus on how “strange/weird/bad” I speak and make fun of it.

I also struggled with my weight. I gained a lot of weight when I moved to Sweden because I was not happy and from being fully active in team sports daily to not moving at all of course I gained over 30 kgs and have struggled still to get rid of it. I’ve come in contact with people who would rather point out that I am over weight than ask themselves why I’m overweight. There are so many reasons that I can take in another post and just as long as I accept myself as how I am and how I look, it shouldn’t be something to point out to me. I know how I look like.

These are just two examples but quite dominant ones in my daily life. I too have stretch marks all over my body, I have very battered up ankles. I have bags under my eyes, I have the 11 between my brows and I am self conscious of my round asian cheeks. I have nails that are so brittle and I can continue to point out every little detail of my being but. I AM OK with it. My stretch marks are there because I grew quickly. I battered up my ankles because I was enjoying being a part of sport teams. I use my brows to express myself and my round asian cheeks are most prominent when Im smiling and Id rather smile than be sad!

Improve your Self Image & think positive!

Like anything else that doesn’t come naturally, take the time and practice! By being able to develop the mindset of positive encouragement towards yourself, you are able to respond in the same way to others and your surroundings.

Here are a few ways to create a more positive mindset by focusing on the right approaches to a better self image:

  • Stop the Negative! When you start beating down on yourself, say stop! If you find this one hard, I actually started by sounding like a crazy person and saying “Stop it!” out loud. If someone insults another person, do you allow them to do so? I have always been one to tell them to stop so why wouldn’t you do the same for your internal voice?
  • Stop the Second Guessing! Shoulda Woulda Coulda right? Nope! You made that choice for a reason and if it didn’t work, it didn’t work. Move On. If you are second guessing yourself, take a new choice. Do something about it. Focus on doing what you can do and not what you can’t do or what you can’t change. This also tunes very much into guilt and responsibility. Don’t feel guilty for feeling the way you do and take responsibility for your feelings.
  • Exaggerations are just that. Exaggerations. “I’m never good enough.” So not true! “I never get picked.” Still not true! These are just some examples of exaggerations. You have been good enough. You have been picked for something before. When you think of an exaggeration, question it. Is it really true?
  • Treat yourself kindly. You have the right to criticize yourself but you also have the right to treat yourself with respect. You cannot change the past but can learn from it. Painful memories and feelings will exist and by seeing them as just memories will give you the opportunity to forgive.
  • Acceptance. The hardest part. Focus on what you can be and not what you are not. Accept flaws and accept that being perfect is not humanly possible. Give yourself a break! You decide how to live your life and you are doing it to your best ability! Monty Phytons “Always look on the Bright Side of Life” is a good quote to think of here. By mentally choosing positive interpretations of comments and events would make it easier to grow as a person and have better self image.

Monday Matters: The Art of Bouncing Back

You wanted more personal posts so I created Monday Matters! Every monday I will try to talk about everything under the sun that matters. Today’s topic is the Art of Boucning Back.

Monday Matters

It took a day for me to write this post, hence why it’s going up on a Tuesday but I needed the time to process and to forumlate my words correctly. I had an extremely tough day yesterday.  I personally don’t take advice from people who just don’t understand as they have not been there but let me share my experiences and I hope that maybe you’d be able to share yours and we can be a support system for each other dispite differences.

I started my year by being laid off work. Is this a taboo subject?

Just a few months ago I was so excited to embark on a new career as an Online Sales Manager and though I had a bit of a learning curve to tackle, I felt I was able to accomplish quite a bit in such a short time. Unfortunately the company could not keep me due to some restructuring and I have a two week notice. Not even. Panic mode. Sitting in my new boss’ office, trying to be strong then realizing that I’m a crier. So be it. She offered the rest of the day and the morning after and I took it.

I’ve never been laid off before nor knew how to process it. I don’t have to stay the two weeks if I don’t want to. It didn’t matter. I couldn’t stop the tears and disappointment in myself. The sympathy I don’t want from my coworkers. The shame I felt for leaving such an amazing job, with amazing coworkers and a good salary for this job. The failure I am for not being good enough for them to want to keep me.

Ok. So. normal right? Who wouldn’t feel that way?

In hindsight, I wasn’t surprised. I think my position was created just for the website project. Projects are between 3 months to a year. I had a feeling that it was coming. I think I wanted the job and maybe more time. Time to have found another job. Time to have accomplished more. Time to have showed them I was worth keeping.

I named this Monday Matters “The art of bouncing back” because, though I found out yesterday, I haven’t been more clear and wanted to share what I did to get over the initial shock.

  • Take Time. Taking the day and the morning after was the best thing I could have done for my sanity.
  • If you’re the strong type, asking for help is not the easiest. Finding out who you can put your trust in and knowing they’d be there even if you’re not perfect is not easy but you need to put yourself out there.
  • I have always been good at not sharing much of my internal struggle and finding the ones who were able to see right through it is what got me through the past few hours.
  • Even though I’m still hurting, the general rule of “fake it till you make it” applies true. By plastering that smile and responding, I’m able to feel like myself.

Bounce Back!

  • I woke up this morning with a determination and clearness to just be grateful. I’m still very sad but being grateful for the next breath of air, for the sun being out today, for the boyfriend who held me all night till I stopped crying.
  • I meditated. It’s been years since. I again, took time. Time to stop myself from destructing. Realizing that I cannot control the happenings around me but I could control how I’m reacting to them.
  • I then started writing this post. Theraputic and hopefully helpful as well.

Now what?

Well. Life goes on. I’m putting this out there and maybe one of you has been in a similar situation.
Share your experiences, leave some advice. Let me know your thoughts on my new Monday Matters theme!

Say Hello to the Flags!

As you may have noticed, the blog is still down. I’m working out the glitches but I have finally gotten my language problem solved. You can switch between English & Swedish by pressing on the flags that you find in the menu bar and or on the side menu!

Let me know which one you like the best and or if I should keep them both?
